Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: November 25

“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit” ~ Romans 8:5

Here, out of the great eighth chapter of Romans, is a single “pleasant stone” whose subtle “colors” we often miss, because we are reaching for the larger truth in the chapter itself.

We have already seen that what gets our attention will ultimately get us. This, is of course, is exactly what this verse declares: “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”

There is great value in group therapy. Power is released in the coming together of the members of any group. Not supernatural power necessarily, certainly not the power of the Holy Spirit, unless it is a Christian group. But power is released and it can be dangerous power as well as creative power. For example, when a group of people assemble around their old sin, even if it to keep them from partaking of it, the sin or weakness still has their attention! So often this is true even of Christian groups made up of people of various professions. I learned just last night one sincere young woman whose card was “torn up” by the secretary of a “professional women’s” group because it was learned she worked in a factory. And this was a Christian group and my friend is also a Christian. We dare not gather exclusively around anything but the Cross of Christ!

“They that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh…”
