Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: November 24

“And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not” ~ Acts 28:24

We can use this little “pleasant stone” to remind us that human nature is human nature. Things happen to us and then things don’t happen. We succeed and then we fail. Some believe and others do not believe.

But God goes on about His amazing purpose and we simply go on about our little part in fulfilling this purpose.

We are to keep our egos out of the picture and just go on “about [our] Father’s business.” It isn’t ours. It’s His. We are to go on about His business, relying utterly on the fact that Jesus Christ began our faith and that He will finish it. That God sent us and He will see us through anything that hinders our going.

If He doesn’t get us through it, He will somehow lead us around it and we will be able to go on doing all that we need to do. And all we need to do is to belong to Him and leave the results and the consequences entirely in His hands.

The sooner we realize we are not able to handle even the results (when some do believe), the sooner we see that of course, we can do nothing about the consequences (when some do not believe). Running ourselves down is not humility, it is self-attention. If some do not believe, God will not stop pursuing them and it is all right (and sometimes for us, better!) if He reaches them at last through someone else. We very much need to accept life as it is and just go on following Christ. The Bible is always perfectly blunt about stating facts as they are.

“Some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.”
