Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: October 28

“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left” ~ Isaiah 30:21

Even when the pressure on my heart is a dark one, this verse reminds me [Eugenia Price, the author] that joy is not necessarily for laughter. Especially when the dark shafts strike upon one and merge to surround me with confusion, I am reminded of the joy in this “green stone” verse. This kind of joy can live in the dark.

There is joy in this verse because God is in it. In it to tell us whether to turn to the right or to the left. God Himself, not only being lovingly detailed in His directions to us, but proving His love as He does so.

Somehow to me, if God had only said “… thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it,” it would have been cause for cringing and fear of never being able to do it. But God said, I’ll tell you exactly “whey ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.”

If you are in confused darkness now, wait. God has promised to give detailed instructions. He is not “the author of confusion.” Be still and wait, God will show you clearly and simply, if you are willing to follow His instructions. He knows whether or not you and I are willing. He knows what it is that He will tell us to do. So, if He knows us to be unwilling in some perplexing matter, what would be the point in giving directions until He has brought us by a means of His own, to the point of willingness? He will never add to your confusion. He will be quite simple about it. No need to agitate. We can rest.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
