Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: October 27

“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified” ~ Acts 20:32

When a minister uses this verse as a benediction after I [Eugenia Price, the author] have spoken in a church, I am always glad. Not once have I ever been too tired for my heart to speed up a little with sheer joy that it is true. God is able to build us up.

If He weren’t, where would we be? Daily torn down, even as we would be trying to build ourselves up!

As long as we are “working on ourselves” for any reason, we are, in a sense, tearing down. We are to work with God. To co-operate with Him in our “building up” process. We are to let Him plainly show His own life in us through our actions. But we are not to waste our precious energies on the futile performance of trying to improve ourselves spiritually. We are merely to expose ourselves to Him.

God is able to build us up.

We Do not have to labor for our inheritance among the saints. We are given that too. We respond to the gift with obedience. By doing God’s will we say “thank you” for this amazing “gift,” but it is a gift. And only when we realize this, do we begin to fall into the dynamic rhythm of the “hid” ones. He is our life. We receive it breath by breath from Him. And respond breath by breath in obedience to the Giver. This is the rhythm of those who walk the earth to the music of heaven. Receive from Christ and give back to Christ. Receive from Christ and give back to Christ. This is the grace-filled rhythm of the true walk.

“Come unto me … O God, thou art my God … Come unto me … O God, thou art my God.”
