Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: September 21

“A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed” ~ Song of Solomon 4:12

This is a singing “green stone” verse for us, if this is the true situation in our lives with Him. He rejoices in this verse. Here again is the mystery of God rejoicing in us. And yet He tells us “my delights were with the sons of men.” He rejoiced “in the habitable parts of the earth.” The earth, where we live. God rejoices in it because we are here. And when He can sing “A garden inclosed is my sister … a spring shut up, a fountain sealed,” His own dear Heart moves in love poured down to woo us into loving Him more and more.

But are we “a garden inclosed”? Are we “a spring shut up”? Are we “a fountain sealed”? Are we sealed against all else but our Beloved?

The Holy Spirit desires to “seal” us. We are to “grieve not the Spirit whereby ye are sealed …” God knows those who have been sealed by His Spirit. Our questions concern our willingness to keep ourselves from opening our “gardens” to any but the Lord Jesus Himself! We are to choose and our choice is to be toward Him and His lovely purpose in our lives. Is He, Himself first? Can we honestly declare:

“To me to live is Christ”?
