Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: October 14

“Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace …” ~ Job 22:21a

“All we need to do to find peace is to become acquainted with God. Knowing Christ brings peace because He is peace. He left His own peace on earth and then He comes to deliver it personally when He comes to live within us at our new birth. We’re not always aware of the peace within us in Christ, but it’s there. Because He is there.

Unfortunately most of us are not enough aware that He is there. And this is because we have not really become acquainted with Him as He is. This is because we do not really know His ways. We know that He said “My ways are not your ways,” but we need to know how they are not like ours.

We will know His ways when we know His heart. And we know His heart when we open ourselves to His love. When we acquaint ourselves with His love in the daily round. We find that His love is not like ours. Our love excludes those who don’t please us. His love includes all. “For God so loved the world.”

We find that our loves grows strong on response. His grows on suffering. The more they mistreated Him on the Cross, the more love He poured down upon them. He knew they needed it. Much the way a mother pours out her love upon an afflicted child.

We find that our love depends upon our moods. His love is “from everlasting to everlasting.” We long for human love to bring us peace. At times it brings us peace and great joy. But only the love of God brings peace and joy in all things and under all circumstances.

“God is love … Acquaint thyself with him, and be at peace.”
