Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: September 3

"... And he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee" ~ Deuteronomy 33:27b

Here is another facet from yesterday's "green stone," bright with cause for rejoicing and rest.  "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneat are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee."

In looking into this lovely singing stone yesterday, we saw that God's arms are always undrneath us because of what His heart is like. No one could conceive of the arms that were nailed to Calvary ever being withdrawn no matter what we do to deserve it. If no man can pluck us out of the Father's hand, why would this same God withdraw His arms? "... underneath are the everlasting arms ..." To stay.  But this merely gives strength to the fragment above: "... and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee." God Himself is up ahead.

The same arms are pushing aside what must be pushed aside if we are laying hold of this promise. It is well to remember that no word of God to us is a fact for us until we have taken it over for our own use by faith. If we have placed our faith in the very character of God, then we can be quite sure that He will "... thrust out the enemy from before" us. And He will know our enemies too. Sometimes we can't recognize them. At other times we refuse to recognize them.

God may leave an "enemy" there for our growth and refinement for a while, but if we are depending solely upon His character and are resting in His intentions toward us, we can be certain that at the time He knows to be right, those same "everlasting arms" will "... thrust out the enemy from before" us.

"... he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee ... Follow me. Follow me."
