Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: September 24

“I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love” ~ Song of Solomon 5:8

Once we have been stripped of our innocence about Christendom (and have seen that men and women whom God has saved through Christ, resemble Him only as they surrender themselves to Him), we are a little frantic at first.

We are discouraged. We think, “Oh, if they’ve known Him all those years and are still so unlike Him, is there any hope for me?”

In one sense there is more hope. Not ultimately, but for right now. Because nothing slows us up more quickly than to drag the spiritual heels of dogmatism. And it is usually the “dogmatic” brothers and sisters who disillusion us most. As soon as we begin to decide we’re right, even about His shed blood, we lose some Resemblance to Him! We are to believe in His sacrifice. But not in order to be “right.”

Those of us who are still amazed at anything, even the blood of God Himself, could cleanse us, don’t have to argue the atonement. We only have to live at one with Him. But at first, when our “veils” are stripped off, we have a tendency to run around crying, “Where is Jesus Christ in all this?”

We run up this street and down that broad way, sobbing, “Where is He? What about all this talk of love? Where is Christ anyway?” Now and then we leave our fellow Christians and go to outsiders for the answer! “I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.” Cause for rejoicing? Yes. We have seen our need. “I am sick of love.”

“Come unto me … God is love.”
