Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: September 17

“He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.” ~ Song of Solomon 2:4

“Here is a “green stone” verse too deep with meaning to be touched with words understandable to our minds. Open your heart to it.

Perhaps you’ve forgotten with the passing of the years, what it was like the day the Lord first “brought [you] to the banqueting house.” Perhaps you’ve forgotten that for the first time in your life you were satisfied after you had eaten the bread He gave you there. Perhaps you don’t remember that your thirst had never really been quenched until you drank the water He handed you. Or you may have forgotten that the reason the bread stopped your hunger and the water your thirst was because He had said: “I am the bread of life” and “If any man thirst let him come unto me and drink.” You believed Him that day and you feasted on Jesus and your heart sang because you knew “his banner over [you] was love.”

You knew that no matter what He ever asked of you, it would only be because He loved you. Somehow suddenly the blood on “his banner” no longer surprised you. Calvary was very near and dear to you, personally. Knowing that “his banner over [you] was love,” you understood in your heart that He could have done nothing else but die for you! You heart seemed too small to contain it all. But the big reason for all the glory was that Jesus was there. He is still there. You can know this wonder again. If you’ve never known it at all, you can know it now. Jesus is here pressing upon our hearts.

“… and his banner over [us IS] love.”
