Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: May 5

"And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day" ~ Isaiah 58:10

Do you feel ignored by life and it is dark where you are right now? Here is another "blue stone" of hope which can change those depths and that darkness into heights and noonday sun. But as in yesterday's sharing, there is also a condition we must meet. There is an "if". But it is very clear and we need only to meet the condition, then we can forget the darkness and the obscurity.

First of all, let's admit that when we feel cast aside or forsaken or lonely --- "... in obscurity," it leads inevitably to self-pity, unless we meet God in it. And I [Eugenia Price, the author] am convinced that nothing clogs our joy in God like self-pity. It is exactly the opposite of what we see when we look at Jesus hanging on the Cross blessing His enemies who were laughing at His agony. And during the time in which we are indulging in it, we are cancelling in our own lives the power for victory let loose on that Cross for us. We do sink into obscurity. We are in darkness. And God knows these things. Since he created us, He knows how we react to everything and so He carefully reminds us that "if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity and thy darkness be as the noonday." If you are lonely or feeling cast aside, pour yourself out to someone else today. All around us hearts are crying just to be loved. Satisfy someone's need to be loved, by letter or by a telephone call or by a visit. You won't need to preach a sermon to them. Just say "I love you." And watch the results. Satisfy their hunger and affliction and ---

" ... THEN shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness as the noon day."
