Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: April 3

"In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended frm heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: and for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. and the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said, Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell ..." ~ Matthew 28:7a
"Go quickly and tell" that no amount of careful sealing with a stone could keep back the Son of God! He created the stone. " ... Go quickly and tell" that "He is not here: for He is risen, as he said ..." "...Go quickly and tell" that Jesus did just what He said He would do. He got up and walked out of that dark, sealed tomb, and to help them adjust to the idea, to give them assurance that God was in total command of the whole amazing event, the Father sent an angel down out of heaven to explain things to the poor, dazzled, earth-bound disciples. " ... For the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it." The angel of the Lord sat upon the stone that was supposed to have held the Lord Jesus Christ a prisoner of death forever!

The great stone became a resting place for God's messenger who came to announce the resurrection. The tomb was empty. The One, whose enemies will someday be a footstool for His nail-scarred feet, was no longer there. He was risen as He said.
"... Go quickly, and tell ... the Lord is risen indeed!"
