"Tremble thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters" ~ Psalm 114:7-8
When we set our feet down on the solid earth after a stormy plane trip, we feel completely secure again. We speak of the good, sure feeling of "old terra firma" again. We think of the earth beneath our feet as steadiness and safety. But here is the Word of God saying: "Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; ..." Here is the Word of God reminding us that the One who dwells within us is mighty enough to cause the very earth to shake. The strongest earthly security trembles at the presence of the God who has come to live within us.
Why? Not only did He create the earth in the first place, but He can change and re-create as He wills. If you, His child, need "water" and there is only "rock" near-by, God, who created both "water" and "rock," can turn the "rock" to "standing water" for you. For me.
Whatever constitutes "Egypt" for you, He can lead you out of it. Whatever overflows with its waves and billows, He can cause it to flee. He can drive back your "Jordan" and turn the "flint" into a veritable "fountain of waters." He is our God as well as the God of Jacob. He didn't make miracles for Jacob because Jacob was a lovely character. He made them because he loved Jacob. And He loves us too. Faithfully. Forever.
"God is faithful, by whom ye were called into the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord."
