Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: December 24

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David A Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” ~ Luke 2:10-11

Tonight is a “Silent Night” for those of us who remember the birthday of Jesus. There is a depth about this night (even to those who do not know Him personally), which causes one distinct note of response never struck again all year long.

Only on this “silent night.”

In the “many-colored stone” passage at the top of this page we see why this is true. “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”

The warm hearts and the one distinct note of response never heard again all year long, are simply the inevitable results of God’s all-embracing intention toward “all people.” “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” God’s intention is all. He would not turn any away. “Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

Good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.

The great heart of God beat there in that makeshift cradle that night, the first night of Jesus’ life on earth. God’s intention toward all people came into the world the first “silent night” and began to move toward us with a love that will never, never turn back.

Unto us a child is born, “a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord.” He came unto us. He was given unto us. In the birth in the little Bethlehem stable that first “silent night” God began a new movement toward us. A new attempt to show us His heart. To give unto us His own Son. Those of us who have received Him know this night about the heavenly song in that night.

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will TOWARD MEN.”
