Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: November 11

“Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with whine; Thus saith thy Lord the Lord, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling…” ~ Isaiah 51:21, 22a

Have you ever been “afflicted” with fear? Have you ever been “drunken” with anxiety? Before getting up to speak has your chair seemed to be fastened to a section of the floor which is set to revolve at an increasing speed in an ever widening circle? Are you “drunken” with your fear for any reason at all?

Are you trembling with nervousness right now because a certain letter has not come? Or because you just don’t know what you are going to say when the phone rings and the time arrives when you just have to say something? Are you literally sick (“afflicted”) with anxiety over some loved one?

God spoke of the Israelites through Isaiah in this “pleasant stone” verse, but He is also speaking of us through him. And since He loves you and since fear and anxiety can damage not only your peace of mind, but your health as well, God wants you to listen.

If you feel “drunk” with fear and worry and anxiety and nervousness, God has something to say to you, and He is asking for your attention in a very personal way. “Thus saith thy Lord the Lord, and thy God that pleadeth the case of his people…”

“Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling … Fear not, for I am with thee.”
