Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: October 25

“… and the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed” ~ Acts 16:26

One more look at a small, but very bright facet of this same “green stone,” because it is eternal cause for rejoicing. This fragment above describes the opening of actual prison doors and the breaking of the chains that bound Paul and Silas.

I [Eugenia Price, the author] am sure both of them would have liked to have walked out of that prison, free men. But they could not. They could not become free men by walking through a door, because they were already free!

If you are behind the bars and locked doors of some new pressure upon your life, nothing basically will be changed, if that pressure is suddenly released. If you are chained with the iron of a deep loss or a new grief, nothing eternal will be changed if your chains fall off, because, if you are Christ’s, you are already free.

Perhaps your heart is too torn to grasp this today. That’s all right. Just go on. It is still true. Perhaps you are too new a Christian to understand. That’s all right too. Jesus knows that. Just go on. It’s still true. Jesus has done for you what He did for Lazarus at the grave. He has “loosed you and let you go.” In or out of trouble, you are free.

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
