Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: October 23

“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God; and the prisoners heard them” ~ Acts 16:25

I [Eugenia Price, the author] have put this verse among our “green stones” because I am so thankful that there is a dependable law in operation here. If you and I rejoice in the midst of suffering, someone will hear. Other “prisoners” will hear. Perhaps other “prisoners” of the same suffering as ours. Perhaps not. But others will hear.

This does not mean we are to sing songs and pray in loud voices to show off our faith in God. This does not mean we need to make a sound with our voice at all. But we have been born into a human family. God created a family, all interdependent upon one another and therefore all touching one another. There is no true isolationism because God said “It is not good that… man should be alone.” Man is not alone.

No-one can live without in some way being “heard” by others.

My attitude of heart in the midst of trouble and hardship sings or complains far more loudly than my voice could sing or complain. And someone will always hear. Someone will be affected by the attitude of your heart and mine today. There is a law in operation here: “… at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God; and the prisoners heard them.”

You and I will be “heard” too.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus … who … humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
