Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: September 1

As with sapphires, emeralds are also the same mineral as the ruby. So, our “blue” and “red” and “green stone” verses are all of the same basic composition: The love and the redemption of God through Christ. Machinery cannot be used to mine emeralds, neither do we come by the “singingness” of the victory at Calvary through a pat, mechanized process. Emeralds are picked tediously by hand from the sharp washed broken rocks which form their “pockets.”

Victory in Christ is “by hand” too. His nail-pierced hands and our willing hands. When first taken from their greenish quartz “pockets” where they are formed, emeralds are very fragile and must be “toughened” by exposure to the air for some time. So must our “green stone” verses be exposed to the air of our daily lives before we can know there is a song in them.Green is a singing color. It is also a restful color. Experience these truths about the victory and rest now as you “share my [Eugenia Price, the author’s] pleasant green stones.”

“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” ~ 1 John 4:8-9

What Better “green stone” for our first day of sharing among the verses which cause our hearts to sing than this one in which we see joyfully that is it is impossible to know divine love without knowing God and impossible to know God without knowing divine love!

No one can truly experience love at its highest who has not truly experienced God. Deceptive imitations of it, perhaps even human love at its very best. But only by knowing God can anyone know divine love because God is love.

God is love. Not a heavenly sentimentalist, but LOVE. And this love was made perfectly plain to us when God “sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” All we ever know of the love of God is in Jesus Christ. “I and the Father are one.” Jesus Christ and God are one. And God is love.

My heart sings and sings and sings because I am at last convinced of this relentless love of God toward us. My heart keeps right on singing, even when the tears are running down my cheeks, as I am laid hold of by the divine love I see looking down at me from the Cross. Divine love melts my heart and fuses it to His heart forever. Divine love that will never let me go.
“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. GOD IS LOVE; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
