Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: August 20

“And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle and told Paul.” ~ Acts 23:16

One of the hardest things for us to do sometimes is to work behind the scenes. To be unnoticed. This is often hard for us because of our pride in our work. But it is also hard because we genuinely feel at times that what we are doing is so small, it just couldn’t possibly count in anything as big as God’s plan.

Paul’s enemies were “lying in wait” to kill him. The entire New Testament would have been altered and the Gospel would not have been spread as it was, if a little fellow whose name is not even mentioned, hadn’t done his mighty bit!

His Uncle Paul was in danger. Perhaps this is all the lad realized. “… when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle and told Paul.” Paul’s life was saved. The boy had fulfilled his destiny.

One of God’s saints whose name I remember only as Carrie, made such an impression on me in my own Christian life, that I have thanked Him again and again for her life. She sat quietly in a prayer room one night loving a raucous alcoholic woman as I talked with her. What I said was unimportant. Carrie had loved this woman in tangible ways through the years, when others had pulled aside their skirts. I may never know Carrie’s last name, but like Paul’s nephew, she fulfilled her destiny with God.

Whatever comes our way, we are to “do it as to the Lord.”

“… he… entered the castle and told Paul … [Andrew] findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias …”
