Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: July 28

“The voice said, Cry …” ~ Isaiah 40:6a
Do you fee no need to cry to God as we share this strange little “purple stone” verse? If you feel none, I pity you. All we ever need to come to Him is need. And here, in His kindness, He reminds us to cry!

“The voice said, Cry …” Why is this? Why does God urge us to cry? How nonsensical that sounds in this era of “chin up, keep smiling”! How backward in this era of “gloss it over”! Why does God say, “Cry”?

I [Eugenia Price, the author] believe the answer is very simple. God knows, even if we have never known how needy we are. He came so that we could have life and have it more abundantly. Therefore, He wants to supply our needs. Since He cannot simply supply needs we don’t recognize, He speaks this strange little “purple stone” verse to us: “Cry …”

Perhaps your present suffering is due to your ignorance of your need on some point. If you spend hour after however dwelling on the great wrong someone has done you, what is your real need? To have God change that person so much he will never wrong you again? To have God change the person so much he will make the past wrongs up to you? No. This is not your need. Your need is to let go of your resentment against that person. Begin to pray for him. Give God the resentment as a love offering and let Him change you where this person is concerned. This we cannot do with our own power. Face this need in yourself in light of the teachings of Jesus Christ and then “Cry”!

“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”
