Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: July 12

“Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name …” ~ Psalm 142:7a
“In this little “purple stone” fragment we find the heart-cry of a captive humanity. Humanity captured by its own hostile heart. Humanity held captive by its own rebellion at being set free! We can be free. Each one of us, if we want to be.

If you are locked in a prison right now as we share these “purple stones, you can come out. Perhaps we won’t mention your particular prison. But you know it. You’ve lived in it. If it isn’t mentioned by name, the way out of it will be made clear anyway. Coming out is the point.

The “purple stone” verse above does not mean that we are to bargain with God. We are not asking God to let us out of prison just so we can praise His name. We are merely facing the fact that until we have been willing to come out, we cannot praise Him. Perhaps you are objecting to the word “willing.” Perhaps you believe yourself to be willing now. I [Eugenia Price, the author] under stand this. You feel you are a victim. As we share together these next few days, we’ll se if we are open to see, that it is not God’s will that anyone should stay in prison. We have Jesus Christ’s own word for that:
“… he hath sent me … to preach deliverance to the captives … to set at liberty them that are bruised.”
