Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation: July 10

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the LORD hath … sent me to bind up the brokenhearted …” ~ Isaiah 61:1
If your heart is broken, look long and deeply at this facet of our ancient “purple stone” verse. Look long and receptively at the reason Jesus came. He came to bind up your broken heart. “… he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted …”

The Spirit of the Lord was upon Jesus and He was anointed specially to heal your broken heart. Does this seem farfetched to you as you sit there perhaps more aware of the ache in your heart than of the presence of Christ? Does your heartbreak seem so big that you have lost your sense of perspective?

I [Eugenia Price, the author] am not attempting to diminish or belittle the pain in your heart. I know about broken hearts too. But I also know that it is so easy for us to look so long at our heartache that we lose our perspective on Christ Himself. He is somehow dwarfed by the hugeness of our trouble. If not that, we are at least likely to think that He can’t quite know how much it all hurts.

He does know, though. Nd He did what He did on Calvary to make a way to heal your heart. You and I can lay our wounded hearts up against His. He knows. He went to the Cross, healing as He went. The same Lord who created the universe and who holds it in place at this moment, is giving equal attention to your broken heart.
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds, He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.”
