Pleasant Stone Devotional Meditation January 25

”Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows …” ~ Isaiah 53:4a
This precious “stone rests as well in either my collection of “clear stones” or “purple stones” or “red stones.” Surely it contains all anyone could ever need for comfort in time of sorrow. I have put the “purple stones” in that collection. None of us escapes trouble, and my own heart longed to have ready a treasure-pile of “purple stones,” little reassurances from God’s own Word, when those times should come. As they will for us all. Surely, this “stone” could also be among the “red stones” … verses concerning His very Life become ours. But somehow it seems necessary that we look at it in its diamond-sharp “clear stone” nature first. After all, words of comfort are just words of comfort unless, they are backed up by action. This verse “cuts right through!” God has backed up every beautiful phrase of comfort from Genesis to Revelation in this great action He took in Christ on the Cross two thousand years ago. Perhaps as you sit there reading this, your very heart is numb with grief. So numb that what I have written makes little or no impression. That’s all right. God knows that too. And it does not change the fact that He has already borne your sorrow. And because He is alive right now and not at all limited by time as we know it, He is right no still bearing your sorrow and is right now still carrying your grief! If you can do no more than just look at Him right now, that’s enough.
“Look unto me and be ye saved … Surely he hath born our griefs and carried our sorrows …”
